From Sandra's Desk
November 2024
We are entering my most favorite month of the year. I love November because it starts with Halloween and ends with my favorite holiday, Thanksgiving, where all the work comes together in the form of gratitude.
We Silvestris' have much to be thankful for this year. We have a new grandson, Rowan Piave, from James and Ashley, a new career for Joey working as a behavioral therapist with autistic children, our daughter Alex, and her husband Chris and children are prospering and enjoying life in the East Bay. They have two new family members, a doggie named Pickles and a horse named Newt. Our granddaughters are thriving and loving their lives. Alan's work is interesting and fun and provides us with great relationships and travel. Our local community is supportive and wonderful. And in our wine world…this is the FIRST year we haven't had a fire, frost or freeze! It's a wonderful work of nature and God when THAT happens. But I'll let Frank bring you up to date on all things vineyard.
Please know that we appreciate each and every one of you. You make our vineyard and wine life fun and worthwhile. And there is no way this could be possible without your loyal support.

From The Winemaker
Hi all, Happy Fall!!!!
This has been a crazy harvest/fermentation year. Due to the heat wave we had in early October all varieties have already been harvested, fermented, pressed, put in barrel, and inoculated to start the malolactic fermentation. To put this in perspective most years we are still picking at this time and then 2 weeks of primary fermentation and 3-4 weeks of malolactic fermentation (converting malic acid to Lactic acid) generally the wines are "finished" at the New Year most years. This year was definitely strong up to be in that same time frame, but those 2 weeks of really hot weather just absolutely pushed this to ripeness quickly. I am really happy with all the wines and can't wait to taste through their journey. We have had some really heavy crop loads over the past few years, but this year was a lot lighter, a natural correction that the vines will make from time to time. Anyhow, have a wonderful fall season.
