From Sandra's Desk
March 2025
Welcome to windy March, true to its reputation, March is entering like a lion. As I told you in the last newsletter, Alan and I and Alexandra moved here in 1989. But I didn't tell you that we moved during a particularly cold, rainy and windy day. And just to keep things coming full circle, we moved into town on the same kind of day. We are enjoying our little place in the middle of everything and many of you have seen more of us in the last two weeks, than in 35 years! We have been to the Sunset Center TWICE for an exhibit and a performance, and to our tasting room many times to just say "Hello" to staff and customers. In short, we are thoroughly enjoying being "townies" after so many years. And it has been wonderful seeing all of you and we look forward to many more chance encounters! So, if you see us, Say "HI!"
We are also enjoying the vineyard with new appreciation for the amazing space and nature we have in beautiful Carmel Valley. I am sending a few photos to share with you. There is talk in SV about some kind of "get together" with our wine club. I don't have details to share with you yet, but it would be lovely to open the doors of this special place and share with all of you the little winery that Frank and Marshall work in to create these wonderful wines that shelve our tasting room. Stay tuned!
Alan and I will be traveling to New York City in March, not for the musical, but for four performances of Back to the Future in Concert at David Geffen Hall in Lincoln Center. Alan says this is his most enjoyable experiences of his music for himself as he gets to hear it live with some of the world's greatest musicians. If you are in the area, please join us!
He also has a new movie that just came out this month on Netflix. It's "Electric State" directed by Joe and Anthony Russo (Avengers fame) and stars Chris Pratt and Millie Bobby Brown. Check it out!
That's all for now! Don't forget to watch out for us and our two puppies wandering around town. We'd love to say Hello and please join us at the tasting room for a taste of Franks amazing work.
Salute,
Sandra

From the Winemaker
Hi all,
Spring is here and it never ceases to amaze me the fluctuations of temperature. In Carmel Valley last week it was beautiful sunshiny days and last night it rained and snowed in the higher elevations with today's high of 45 at the winery. After 2 years of above average rain, historically that meant imminent drought, which with almost 0 rain in January looked like the most likely outcome this year, but thankfully this February and March the rain has come and we are very grateful to be looking at minimum an average rain year, which would be amazing. On the winery front, we recently sent an email informing you that prices have changed, and in my opinion, for the better. We want as many of you, your friends, and your family to try these wines, and enjoy sharing them, and with the lowering of the prices hopefully that is the outcome. We really love our community of Silvestri lovers and hopefully some of you have connected as well. I recently watched a Netflix documentary on the world's " Blue Zones" (places where the life expectancy is highest) and besides being active, community and sharing in wine, laughing, and overall joviability seemed to be the secret sauce. Definitely a great watch! Our wines are tasting amazing, sun will soon be shining, life is good. Cheers to all of you and thank you for the continued support, we are all very grateful for your support of this small family business.

Recipes with Andi
Spring is just around the corner! As the vineyard comes out of its hibernation, the rest of us get to enjoy the resurgence of new growth and blossoms, slightly warmer weather, and sunset at a reasonable hour again! I love fresh spring veggies, especially after a winter full of heavy holiday foods, and this light spring salad is super refreshing. There really isn't a dressing to worry about when you make this, the natural juices of the components provide a lot of flavor and a light juiciness without risking too much wilting. And as always, trust your gut, and remember these quantities are helpful suggestions- not the end-all, be-all.
Spring Pea Salad
Ingredients:
4-5 small/medium fresh Radishes
1 good-sized medium carrot
5 medium fresh Strawberries
3-4 large Mint leaves
2-3 stems of tarragon leaves
1 small head of baby/butter lettuce, washed thoroughly
½ cup Peas (Fresh sweet peas are awesome, frozen work just fine if you need to. I also like using fresh cowpeas when they're available for extra texture)
1 lemon wedge
1 tbsp good Olive Oil
Salt & pepper to taste
OPTIONAL: Crumbly goat or feta cheese for garnish
Equipment needed:
A Mandolin, or a box cheese grater with a flat-slicing side
A chef's knife
A bowl
Directions:
Using your mandolin or cheese grater, slice your radishes and carrots into thin ribbons or disks. Throw them in the bowl.
Use the knife to slice the strawberries thin without bruising them. Add them to the bowl.
Slice your mint into thin strips and add them to the bowl.
Pluck the tarragon leaves from the stems, add them to the bowl.
Either slice or rip your lettuce leaves and add them to the bowl.
Add your peas (thawed, if you are using frozen). Then use your hands to gently mix all of the ingredients in the bowl together.
After mixing for a minute or two, you should notice juices collecting in the bottom of your bowl. Great! That is the beginning of your dressing. Now, add the juice from the lemon wedge, your olive oil, and salt and pepper. Using your hand again, mix all of the ingredients to fully incorporate your seasonings. When all of your produce has a light coating of the juices and oil, your salad is done. Plate, and if you're so inclined, add a little goat or feta cheese for an extra pop.
I love this salad with our Piave Pinot Noir- a red might seem controversial with salad, but the bright berry notes and slight spiciness in both make this an absolute knock-out for any occasion. Or, if you want to go a bit more traditional white, the Tre Bambine Chardonnay would also suit this very well, balancing the acid in the lemon juice with its mild, caramel creaminess. Enjoy, and share a toast to the new season! And if you have any questions, feel free to reach out to my email, andi@silvestrivineyards.com. "
Cheers!
Andi

We are beyond excited to introduce the third vintage of our I'Vendicatori Cabernet Sauvignon 2021. This bold and powerful wine showcases the strength and elegance of a well-crafted, coastal-grown Cabernet Sauvignon. Be sure to stop by and experience this exceptional vintage.
Alan and Sandra were excited to get the staff up to San Francisco to see Back to the Future the Musical as it is now touring. It was an amazing show with incredible special effects. The cast was perfect and most importantly, the music carried the entire show telling the classic story of the 1985 movie. If you didn't make it to San Francisco, you're in luck. The show will be playing in San Jose starting June 2nd at the San Jose Center for Preforming Arts.
