From Sandra's Desk
June 2025
Greetings from the road!
I'm sorry to be a little late with this month's newsletter. Alan and I are just returning from a few days across the pond in London, where he was at the famous Abbey Road recording studios. It's always a thrill to walk those halls where so much music history has happened. While we are away, I keep in touch with Marshall and Francisco and Daniella. I know we are always in the best of hands. We will be home soon and back in the vineyards and tasting room. And I cannot wait!!!
See you there!!!
Salute!
Sandra

From The Winemaker

Happy Summer everyone,
This is the first week of not running around taking kids to endless sporting events, school activities, ridiculous homework that has no real-world application, and for us 2 graduations, woohoo. It is also the first morning, in a long time, without morning fog, I want the famed " June gloom" to go away!! For most of the US the June gloom is a welcome natural air conditioning that everyone wishes they had, but for growing grapes, it's not ideal. With increased mildew pressure and the grape clusters flowering, consistent nice weather is key. Drippy fog, cold wind, rain are not something we want. Like I have said before, a lot of praying is all we can do about some of the circumstances that we face on the farming end. In the winery, if I do my due diligence, things are almost for certain to work out when done right, but in the vineyard, it's a different story. This is one of those jobs where you can do everything perfect, to a T, and not have it work out because of things you can't control. For instance, last year, the grapes were having a killer year, steadily ripening, until an unprecedented 10 days straight of high 90's to over 100 degrees. Threw the entire harvest into chaos. The harvest was still great just condensed from 8 weeks to about 4. The wines, thankfully, are excellent but wow that was a scary one. This year, the growing season has started cool, not too dissimilar to '21 and '23 but we are hoping for a nice warm start to the Summer, which if today is any indication, might be happening, Cheers to all of you and the continued support of the winery. It is very much appreciated.
Frank
