Happy July!!! Happy July 4th, especially, but if that date has passed…Happy July! I never know if all of the contributors to this newsletter will have their pieces completed when I do, so I have to guess and do my best. (Ahem…Frank? ) Well, he deserves to be a little late sometimes as he has a very big job and writing for the newsletter (fortunately) falls WAY down on the list of his activities. BUT he does write important news so …we wait. LOL. And we love what he brings.
Alan and I had a wonderful trip to London and New York but our favorite trip this June has been to see our grandchild, Rowan, in Utah. Nothing like grandchildren to raise the spirits. We also have had some lovely time in the vineyard and tasting room. Last weekend Daniella (our wonderful tasting room manager) surprised us with the news that she has just gotten engaged!!!! Congratulations to Daniella and Israel!!! Life….weddings and grandchildren!! Nothing better than this and nothing better to celebrate with than a nice glass of wine!
We hope you all are enjoying your summer with family and friends and a taste of Silvestri wines here and there. Happy Summer and thanks for your patronage!

From The Winemaker
Hey all, Happy belated 4th of July. One of my favorite holidays, I have a terrible affinity for hot dogs, chili, and all things American. The diversity of the people in America is amazing. Our family recently went on a little trip to a small, not even town, on the way to Southern California. This amazing, tiny, one street enclave had some of the most amazing people. The bakery we loved was owned and operated by an incredibly jovial Argentinian guy and his family. He said he discovered this utopia by chance he had actually gotten lost, lol. We also met a guy from South Africa, a country I once lived in and really enjoyed. We talked about the greatest sausage in the world, Boerewors, and the chaos of Tahoe. Anyway, the whole point of the story is that people have had so many paths, from so many different places. Along with wine that creates it's flavors and sensory memories that are completely unique to the individual. It drives me crazy when a "wine expert" spouts off what you "should" or "should not" taste or smell. Every person has a unique history of smells and tastes, what the heck does that guy know about what you are smelling or tasting? I have a prime example of a unique tasting. Early in my wine experience we were doing a tasting with a bunch of wine aficionados and the question of what we were tasting/perceiving was passed to me. My response was "it tastes and smells like Christmas". The wine aficionados were perplexed because there was nothing traditionally "Christmassy" about the wine. For me, though, the wine had prickly pear flavors, and in my life, at Christmas, we had prickly pears for dessert. Smelling and tasting that flavor shot me to memories of my grandmother's house at Christmas,,, it was Christmassy, was I wrong? The answer is, absolutely not. Wine is completely personal and where it takes you can be amazing. So, moving forward, realize, there is never a wrong answer or perception, it is yours and yours alone. Enjoy and thanks as always for the continued support, it is much appreciated.
