From Sandra's Desk
September 2025
Welcome fall and more importantly welcome bottling and harvest! After a very fun summer, filled with travel and "cars", we are settling back into school schedules for our grandchildren, and Alan is returning to his writing desk full time. Most of you know that we have our Highlands house listed for sale and have moved our residence into town and the Valley. Being in town for the summer events was delightful because we were able to visit the tasting room a lot and meet some wonderful new friends as well as seeing some of our old friends. The Concours was "interesting" this year, but we must admit that although we do love to "see" the fancy cars, we don't always love to "hear" them. I'm pretty sure we aren't alone in this….lol
I will leave Frank to tell you where we are in the harvest schedule. But I do know that it was the coolest summer in 35 years, so we are a little delayed but still on the books. I have attached some promising photos from the vineyard and a few "party" pictures from the summer.
We will be traveling a little this fall for concerts (Royal Albert Hall in London) and family birthdays (Little Rowan) but you can still catch us roaming the village(s). Please say Hello if you see us on foot or on Vespa.
Until then….
Ciao! And Salute!
Sandra

From The Winemaker

September is here!!! This week is an exciting week, we are bottling the '23 "big reds" and the '24 whites and Pinot. The '23 vintage is so interesting because it was a very cold year leading to lower sugars than normal but despite that the wines remained bold, an oddity of sorts. Generally, my feeling is that there is a "thinness" with less ripe fruit, leading to wines more in the style of the old world, which is fine just not my vibe, as the kids say. These colder years freak me out a bit because above all else I want the wines to be really consistent, so you, as the customer, have a general sense of the type of wine you are getting year after year. The Barbera for instance is a wine that is left to its own devices would be a super bright, tart mother goose. It takes some finessing to make it that beast you take home to enjoy. Anyway, I gotta run tons of prepping for this bottling and harvest which is weeks away. Cheers and thank you for supporting this very small operation.
Frank
