Welcome!

We appreciate your patronage and hope to keep you up to date on the latest news from the vineyard and the tasting room, (with an occasional bite from Alan's musical efforts).

From The Winemaker

Happy New Year! This winter has started off on the right foot with a good dose of much needed rain, let's hope it continues. We have some exciting wines in barrel from that 2014 harvest including the very first Late Harvest Botrytis Chardonnay picked in late December. Botrytis is often referred to as "noble rot" and is essentially mildew that has grown on the ultra ripe clusters of grapes. Why do this? The Botrytis adds an incredible flavor to the sweet wine, a nuance that just isn't matched in any other way. Currently, the 2 1/2 barrels that we have are finishing the fermentation process and are tasting ridiculously good. It will age in stainless barrels until August and we will be bottling the wine in splits or 375 ml bottles shortly there after. Looking forward to March, we will be bottling the 2013 BIG Reds (Syrah, Barbera, Eugenia and Red Ranger Syrah), which are absolutely killer wines. 2014 was a great year for us, so thank you for all the support. We really appreciate it.

Now is a great time to visit us at the tasting room. The holiday rush is over and it is a perfect opportunity to come in and taste in a relaxed atmosphere.

One of the best parts of owning a vineyard and making wine from its terroir is watching the seasonal changes that signal the various stages of winemaking and grape growing. In January, we return from the holidays looking forward to the new year and its clean slate of possibilities. Just as nature considers the new year with migratory birds and newly green vegetation brought by winter rains, so there are many things to consider in the vineyard; pruning and soil preparations, new planting and re-evaluating last years growth and making changes to encourage the qualities we are seeking in our wine. At the same time we will be tasting wine from the barrels and looking for the right blend for our Rising Tide, Bella Sandra or Red Ranger. 2015 also signals new beginnings in the varietals we will be making. It's going to be an exciting 2015 at Silvestri Vineyards and we cannot wait to share it with all of you! Please join us in the tasting room as we welcome the new year.
