        You may have missed Alan and I in the tasting room recently but we have a very good reason for our absence.  On May 8th we were invited by the village of Boubiers, France to attend a ceremony commemorating the end of WWII in Europe in 1945 via the installation of a memorial monument recognizing the sacrifice of 8 very young American airmen in France on July 8, 1944.  My Uncle Everett was the pilot of the B-17 bomber that crashed that day in a field attempting to destroy the Nazi supply lines to Normandy.  He died on his 20th birthday after completing 33 missions.  It was Alan's and my honor and privilege to attend the ceremony along with three other American families.  

After the very emotional trip to Boubiers, we took the opportunity to visit some of the world famous vineyards of Burgundy.  We are now on our way to visit Alan's family hometown, Castell Alfero in the Piedmont region of Italy.  The last time we visited this wonderful region we dreamed of making a Barbera, which we now have in our vineyard and sell in our tasting room.  We will finish our trip by attending the Premiere of the Back to the Future Film Concert in Lucerne.

We wish you all a wonderful Memorial Day weekend and ask that you remember the terrible sacrifice that so many of our service men and women and their families make every day to secure our freedom.  Thank you to each and every one of you.  We salute you.
