We appreciate your patronage and hope to keep you up to date on the latest news from the vineyard and the tasting room, (with an occasional bite from Alan's musical efforts).

July!

Fireworks and celebrations! This is what comes to mind when we think of July and it is no different with our Silvestri Family Vineyards. We are very excited to see the progress the new plants are making in the new section of our vineyard. Most of the new "kids" are in the ground and starting to poke their leaves out of the grow tubes and into the warm Carmel Valley sun. Growing wine grapes is a long process that takes time, patience and a lot of hard work. This part of the vineyard has been years in the making and we are so grateful to Marshall and Frank who follow our newbies through this time, guiding them gently into our family of wines.

Alan and I have been traveling quite a bit for the Back to the Future concerts. Our most recent stop was Davies Hall in San Francisco. It is an exhilarating time for us but we miss our home so it is wonderful that our wines get to travel with us. They have made appearances at family reunions, gorgeous weddings near and far, and of course at all of the Back to the Future concerts. It's a wonderful time in the vineyard and in our family. We recently were told by our daughter to expect a new grand "bambino" in the winter months. As a family and a vineyard we are GROWING!

We look forward to seeing you in the tasting room this month and next. Please wave hi if you see us in passing and please enjoy a taste of our adventures in our Silvestri wines.

Happy Summer, Silvestri wine lovers!

As the summer winds down and the grapes start to mature it is amazing how fast time is passing. Being a baseball fan I find it pretty cool how the baseball season and the wine grape growing season coincide. Like baseball, farming grapes can be very humbling. You can do everything right and still not have a good year in your own eyes, yet, in the end, have a fantastic finish. This year, like the current baseball season, has been a bit of a challenge. From an early bud break, to an April frost, followed by a three week cold spell that included rain (during flowering which is the worst case scenario for the little flowers), to near perfect weather, and as I'm writing this an unprecedented July storm has brought nearly an inch of rain. Whoa, it's been a crazy year, but we are expecting the vineyard to have a fantastic finish. I guess what I'm trying to convey is I hope all of you appreciate every sip of wine, because, man, it's not an easy thing to create...but in spite of the challenges we are expecting another great vintage of Silvestri wines and we are having fun doing it.

Back to the Future Live in Concert

We would like to thank all of you who have helped kick off this summer season with a bang. Looking back over the years we think it is safe to say that our tasting room has never been busier. It is you, our club members and our loyal patrons, that are spreading the word about Silvestri Vineyards. The staff loves to hear stories about how our guests have heard about the tasting room. Some of our favorite stories are those of personal recommendations from friends and neighbors back home saying that Silvestri Vineyards is a must stop while in Carmel. We also love being a part of newly formed friendships between strangers – shared stories and experiences over a splash of Silvestri Pinot Noir. Our tasting room is not just a place to come for delicious wine; it's a place where you can meet kind, interesting people from all over the world. Thank you for making our tasting room a wonderful and exciting place to be.

Featured wine of the month:

2014 Silvestri Vineyards Rose

Rosé style wines are made from red-skinned grapes, but the juice from these grapes is treated like a white wine during most of the production process. This means that the juice and skins have a limited amount of contact before they are separated. Fermentation is done without the skins present. The length of this maceration period is a decision made by the wine maker, and it will influence the color and flavor intensity of the wine.

Our 2014 Rosé is made for 100% Pinot Noir. We use neutral French oak in the cellar and it is aged for about five months. This wine does not go through malo-lactic fermentation, but shows a full mouthfeel due to Sur Lie aging.

Tasting Notes:
A cool, crisp and dry Rosé that delivers bright acidity and soft, subtle aromas of watermelon, raspberries, strawberries, and a slight earthiness.
