From The Winemaker:
Windy! That is this years description. Windy can be great, especially if it is hot. With wind comes a little relief from oppressive heat as well as the little flying critters that have nothing better to do but fly directly into the ear canal, making you jump and smash the side of your head like a Hulk Hogan swat. This year is different though, it's that bone chilling, ice cold, wear mukluks kinda wind. So for the vineyard what does that mean? Glad you asked. It means a little less mildew pressure (good news), it means a little leeway temperature wise for the dreaded "f" word I will not say, it starts with f and ends with r-o-s-t, also good news. It means, temporarily, a little slow down in growth, too early to say whether that's good or bad TBD, and last and probably the best news, is that the soil moisture that we've accumulated over the winter will not evaporate as fast, a real benefit. If we continue to get intermittent rain the guys may not have to water the vines until July. That would be awesome for the vineyard as the water we pump from our wells have salts, which eventually build up in the soil and root zone, and actually are a detriment to the vines and their health. So as much as I want to go to the beach or river with my wife and 3 boys, this cold wind holding us back I am very appreciative of.
On the wine front, we've been going through the current releases and they are all tasting great! I think the Rose' won't be too long before it's released, so keep an eye out for that news. Cheers and as always THANK YOU for the continued support, we wouldn't exist without you.
