We appreciate your patronage and hope to keep you up to date on the latest news from the vineyard and the tasting room (with an occasional bite from Alan's musical efforts).

From Sandra's Desk

April 2023

April showers? How about April NO MORE showers. Of course, we love that our reservoirs are full and that we might be able to escape some of the effects of the severe drought, but I think we can all agree, we are good for rain! April is the season of rebirth and the vineyard is always the first place I notice the new life. The vines shoot out small buds, the fruit trees blossom with vigor and the birds hatch little fledglings who crowd the pond and share the riches of life in our beautiful Carmel Valley. Like the buds and birds, we find a renewal in the warming air and the fresh green that appears on the hills and ridges. The Silvestri Family is planning a wedding for our son and his fiancé in the vineyard come the fall and the planning reminds me of the joy we have always experienced at this special place. There will be much to do in addition to all the usual responsibilities that owning a vineyard and winery demand. But we are "TOTALLY" up for it!
Alan and I will be spending some time in New York as "Back to the Future the Musical" opens this summer on Broadway. But we have capable hands to help in all our endeavors, so we are confident in their success. We hope the spring brings peace and happiness to your home and family. We appreciate you including us in this special time of year. Thank you for your patronage.

From The Winemaker

Hey all, just a quick early spring update. After copious amounts of rain and a very chilly winter and early spring, the mountain grasses and wildflowers are exploding, a wonderful sight to see. The vineyard is still very sleepy, probably not for long. After 5 months of cold weather it looks like Easter is going to bring some 70's and even 80's, woohoo. That means the vines are going to POP with bud break and then WE ARE ON! I'm very excited for the year to come, we grafted some more Syrah, so moving forward we will have more of it available, which I love because Syrah is one of my favorite varietals and I am always hoping to get more people to appreciate the greatness of what that variety has to offer. Syrah specifically has so many flavor profiles and expressions, it's truly amazing. I know in just 2 small blocks here at Silvestri the expressions are completely different. The clones of the Syrah are a major factor but also the vines on the steepest part of the slope versus the bottom flats express themselves differently. Happy spring, baseball season (go Giants), and a very happy Easter to all.

From The Tasting Room:

April showers bring spring flowers... and power outages and trees falling down. This winter has been rough on Carmel-by-the-Sea, but it hasn't stopped us from pouring wine. Our tasting room is open daily from 12-6pm; rain or shine. We will be looking forward to seeing all of you this month.

As you know, we had a small set back with our wine club release (which will now commence on Saturday April 8th in the tasting room, shipping fulfillment occurs Monday April 10th). However, there is no need to worry as we will proceed with the release of the new 2019 vintage of Rising Tide, Pinot Noir. Come in to taste the new Pinot while it's flowing.

We have received some exciting news about our wines. Wine Enthusiast Magazine has rated six of our wines at 91 points and up! This news is music to our ears. The 2019 Red Ranger, Syrah won 93 points and the reviewer dubbed it a "Hidden Gem". Thank you, Winemaker Frank!
