Greetings from the tail end of winter.
We had some lovely, almost summery, days of spring earlier in the month of February but March roared in over the weekend and I hope that we follow the old adage from the Farrmers's Almanac..., "In like a lion, out like a lamb". Whoooeeee…. wind and rain and more rain and more wind but we are lucky. The vines are not yet pruned but if the lamb comes around, pruning is just around the corner. And from there begins the year 2024. Yes! This will be our 22nd vintage and the entire process only grows in excitement every year.
Speaking of excitement…. Alan and I have had the opportunity to take a quick trip to New York to see "Back to the Future the Musical" and visit with the cast and crew. What a fun show! (if I do say so myself…but then you all know I am a huge fan of Alan…lol). We are excited to share with you all that the show begins its US Tour in June and makes its way to Los Angeles, California opening on November 5th, 2024 (to BTTF fans that date is very special) and to San Francisco in February of 2025. Recently, our musical director from Broadway, Ted, came to visit and we had the best time showing him the wonders of the peninsula. Not just our vineyard but the great restaurants in Carmel and the amazing drive to Big Sur. He agrees it is a special place.
So, my friends, as March lions become April lambs, we hope to see you in the tasting room or around town. After a VERY long strike, Alan is back to work, and we will be more visible as our traveling slows down. We wish you all a marvelous spring and lots of warm days fit for a glass of wine outdoors on your patios, or in our tasting room on 7th street between Dolores and San Carlos.

From The Winemaker
Happy almost spring everyone!!!
I love rain! Not in the way someone would love being around it all year, but in the way of what it means for us here on the central coast of California. We, generally speaking, don't get that much here, about 15-18 inches annually, but when we are able to have back-to-back years of above average rainfall, Creek's flow, the Carmel River runs wild, and the hills are a glorious green. The water is rejuvenating, life giving, a big sigh of relief. Of course, all this translates to the vineyard. There have been years in which we have had to water through the winter because lack of rainfall, I believe from winter '13 to winter '14 we only received 6" of rain total, devastating. So, it is such a blessing to receive precipitation. Looking forward to this year, the vines should be well rested, cleansed, and ready to go gangbusters as soon as we get a little bit of sunshine.
